We had Terry, Don, Breann, Kol come to our residence to remove a very large 100 year old Elm tree that was diseased. They did an amazing job leaving no mess. They had to remove my temporary fence for access and re-built it that same day without any issues. Very Professional, would highly recommend.
This morning they were out front hard at work removing a large, dead tree. I spoke with a member of the crew, Cam, he was friendly, courteous, and answered all my questions. It's a rare sight nowadays to see a crew of yellow vests and everyone working.
Had the team come out and take care of pruning my giant Ash trees. Great service! They got it all done even though the tree needed a lot of work. Thanks again!
Tree planting isn’t just about digging a hole—it’s about setting trees up for success. It involves following ANSI A-300 planting standards, ensuring correct root depth, and providing initial care like mulching and staking—all crucial for long-term tree health. Whether for a backyard, business, or city park, planting trees helps create greener, healthier communities for years to come!
Planting trees isn’t just about making your yard look great—it’s an investment in your home and community. Here’s why adding more trees is always a good idea:
Good for the Environment
Trees do a lot of heavy lifting when it comes to a healthier planet. They absorb carbon dioxide, improve air quality, and reduce pollutants. Plus, they help prevent soil erosion by reducing runoff and even combat the urban heat island effect, keeping cities cooler.
Instant Curb Appeal
A well-placed tree (or a few!) adds natural beauty to your yard, boosting curb appeal and making your outdoor space more inviting. Whether you want a shady retreat or a striking focal point, trees elevate the look and feel of any landscape.
Great for the Community
Trees make neighbourhoods more enjoyable by providing shade, encouraging outdoor activities, and even blocking unwanted views or noise from busy roads. What benefits you also benefits your neighbors, making tree planting a win-win for the whole community.
Surprising Cost Savings
While planting a tree is an investment upfront, it pays off in the long run. Strategically placed trees provide shade in the summer, helping you save on cooling costs, and act as windbreaks in winter, reducing heating bills. Not to mention, mature trees can increase property value!
Planting a tree today means a greener, healthier, and more beautiful future.
Tree planting may not have a ton of different methods, but the way you do it makes all the difference. Our arborists follow a few key techniques to give young trees the best start:
Handling Roots with Care – Young tree roots are delicate, so we minimise handling the root ball to avoid damage.
Keeping Roots Moist – Dry roots can struggle to establish. We ensure the root ball stays hydrated throughout the process.
Digging the Right-Sized Hole – We make the hole twice as wide as the root ball to give roots plenty of space to spread. We dig before removing the tree from its container or burlap.
Not Planting Too Deep – Most tree roots grow in the top 12 inches (30 cm) of soil. We keep the root collar at ground level for proper growth.
Planting Quickly – If you’re buying a tree yourself, get it in the ground within a day or two to prevent root stress.
While this isn’t an exhaustive list, these best practices help ensure your trees thrive.
Picking the perfect tree for your space isn’t just about what looks nice—it’s about choosing one that will thrive in your environment and fit your lifestyle. Here’s what to keep in mind:
Know Your Hardiness Zone
In Canada, plant hardiness zones help determine which trees will grow best in your area. These maps, first developed in the 1960s, guide arborists in selecting the right trees for specific climates. Not sure what works for your region? Our experts at Green Drop can help you make the right choice!
Think About Functionality
What do you want from your tree? Shade? A pop of colour? Low maintenance? Your tree should fit your needs and lifestyle. Whether you’re looking for a hassle-free ornamental tree or a fruit-bearing tree for homegrown treats, Green Drop can match you with the perfect fit.
Soil & Sunlight Matter
Healthy trees start with the right conditions. Your soil type and sun exposure play a huge role in whether a tree will flourish or struggle. We assess your space—including existing plants, structures, and sunlight patterns—to ensure your new tree has the best possible start.
